“The Civil War era never sounded so good…
Colorful, dense with meaning and rich with life.”
“We have had many artists visit our school and there are no other programs that stand out as much as The Hardtacks. This program mixes music and history with story-telling in a way that is engaging and interesting for middle school students. Not an easy task!!”
~ Middle school history teacher / Bow, NH
“Now folks, that’s real music!”
“When I helped to arrange the Hardtacks visit to [our school], I wasn’t alone among teachers in wondering if old-time folk-type music of the Civil War era might be a bit of a difficult sell to our arts-naive K-8 student body. With the easygoing, approachable energy Marek and Woody bring to a stage I shouldn’t have worried. As soon as the first chords were struck, children of all ages started subtly moving to the rhythm while listening intently to every word. By the first singalong, even kids that usually wear a bored mask at school had sparkling eyes and raised hands. Also noticeable was that this assembly truly included every student, especially those with special needs and along the full age spectrum. This is one of the most important strengths of the best arts programming — different children access learning in different ways. The Hardtacks have created a program that really does this.”
