After the Emancipation Proclamation changed the face of the Civil War, Henry Clay Work released this sequel to his popular “Kingdom Coming”: 

By 1863, African Americans have accomplished a stunning transformation of their role in the war, starting as “contraband” and ultimately enlisting as armed soldiers who sometimes actually returned to their old plantations to deal with their former owners on new terms.
